Today I learned that the name красная (krasnaya) which means both “red” and “beautiful” is the origin of the Red in Red square that we learn about back home in Ottawa. I never knew this and it is beautiful, which is a considerably softer connotation then my preconceptions of this place I knew very little about before I arrived here.
